MONTROSE, CO<\/strong> – There are a handful of breweries in Montrose, this time we visited two of them. First was Colorado Boy Pizzeria & Brewery<\/a><\/strong> whose mission statement is simple; “Don’t Suck” and they live up to their motto! Located on Main Street, they make GREAT homemade pizza and have a selection of 8 craft beers – we tried all of them! The winner for me was the Olathe Sweet Corn Cream Ale… a lovely cream ale accurately described on their menu as “light and crisp, brewed with Olathe sweet corn and Olathe hops”. It tasted like honey and sunshine and summer! I only wish I had taken a growler with me because I couldn’t find any more…any where… so I will have to wait until the corn harvest next summer for that DELICIOUS beer! There are Colorado Boy breweries also in Ouray and Ridgeway and if you are interested in becoming a brewer, they offer a full immersion brewing class that will help you get started. Our next HOP was to Silver Basin Brewing<\/a><\/strong>. They opened in 2022 in a cool old shipping warehouse on North 1st Street where they feature a small menu of really great brews. We tried 5 (4 oz) tasters – all for the low price of $11… what a deal! BOB, the owner-brewer gave us a taste of their English Style IPA just out and WOW who knew an IPA could be so delicious and flavorful?! (note the sarcasm here… I’m not an IPA fan but I liked this one). <\/em> Silver Basin also hosts fun stuff like bingo and trivia night and have many TV’s to watch football. A shout out to the very friendly Montrosians who squeezed us in at the bar, thanks guys! Do you ever notice how BEER DRAWS people together?! <\/p>\n\n\n\n

On our way to Montrose, we spent the afternoon touring through the Black Canyon of t<\/a>he Gunnison<\/a><\/strong>.
In my opinion, one of the most underrated natural wonders in Colorado, as one of the most stunning yet least visited national parks in the U.S. It takes just a few hours to drive the scenic loop of the more popular South Rim, and see the enormous “Painted Wall”. Sit and imagine the eons it took to create those beautiful painted ribbons in the rock granite. The North Rim is the same but dramatically different, fewer viewpoints with no crowds… looking into those vastly sheer and narrow canyons will take your breath away! <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Painted Wall at 2,250 feet high is the tallest cliff in Colorado. The sheer drop cliff is amazing on its own but the painted strips on the canyon wall is also amazing, formed by magma intrusions in Precambrian Gneiss, some of the oldest rock on the planet.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
